I have an older Incandescent Model that runs on C123's

Can this safely handle RC123's?

Is there a better replacement bulb assembly?

Hey man, welcome to the site.

Without knowing specifics about your light it is not practical to state if/what improvements can be made.

Now regarding rechargeables, if you let them rest an hour off the charger voltage will be reduced a bit so chances are the bulb will tolerate the little extra output from the batteries.

But again not knowing any details I wouldn't want to say "awe yeah, you'll be fine.. go right ahead". Plus battery output varies as well. The idea is to find something like SureFires old LifePo4 cells as they put out about the same as a non rechargeable. So check into LifePo4 RCR123's. Amazon has "K2" brand LifePo4's.

Potted WA01328-U will work with 3 RCR123
It is much brighter than stock but run time will be short.
Never use 3 of any kind rechargeables with stock bulb.
If you can find pair of 16500 which fits inside barrel, stock bulb will work fine.

Correction:
Above statement is for 3 (three) R123 primary Browning which I have.
If yours is 2 cell, then potted 1499 will work fine with pair of IMR 16340

2x RCR123A's will kill a 6 volt bulb instantly, unless there is some type of regulation circuit like with the Surefire A2 Aviator. I think fivemega read the question wrong.
