420 is not my choice of steels either. Mr. Bos does not do the heat treat on all Bucks. I know he has done some of Buck's blades in S30V, ATS-34, and BG-42. Buck also sells blades in these steels, I think, that are not Bos treated. Cabela's has a line of S30V knives. I'm not sure if they are done by Mr. Bos or not.
My point is that they do make quite a few nice knives that are sharp out of the box and hold an edge well. Also, customer service is top notch.
I am hoping Joe Talmadge adds to this thread. He always explains things better than I can. Maybe that's because he knows alot more.
