Re: FS: Orange anodised maglites.

@ Per Arne & autogiro, thanks for letting me know you've received it.

@ Kestrel, thanks for repairing the thread.

@ merrimac, Paypal received, thanks. I'll let you know when it has shipped. I'll make a violet 2C next but can't do lime green (at the moment at least)

merrimac: the orange 2C has shipped

Blue 2C added. Note that there is a stock blue 2C maglite but it's a completely different shade of blue.

I'm not one for doing videos, but I'll happily answer any questions you have. Read my other thread about how I made these, it contains most of what you need to know. You could check out the Caswell forums as well. Those guys know a lot more about it than I do. Do you have any chemistry experience? If not I wouldn't really recommend doing it yourself as some of the chemicals are highly corrosive e.g. sodium hydroxide can cause serious burns. Nitric and sulphuric acid is also nasty stuff. There's nothing toxic involved but fumes given off are highly corrosive and can cause throat and lung irritation. You don't need a full on gas mask but a respirator with a high grade particulate filter is recommended.

To the OP: there is a severe color shortage with 2C and 3C sizes. Any colors on either/both will sell well.

I've just bought some fluorescent pink dye from Caswell and also upgraded my anodising tank to accommodate larger lights.
Here's a one-off fluorescent pink 3D I made for CPF member helge-seins for £90

pinkmagsmall.jpg

It's a very bright pink - even brighter than maglite's hot pink AA.
I plan to make a few 2C size and sell them here. The price will be $90 (USD) for 2C as this dye is much more expensive than regular dye. I can do 2D on request as well.

Re: FS: Orange anodised maglites.

May I suggest a small hint of your wonderful color Mag.
Before you anodize it, make a 0.5-0.8mm chamfer at the end of the tube. (Tailcap contact point)
After anodizing, you sand off the end surface for connectivity.
And the chamfer will still be covered by the anodizing.
No bare aluminum edge exploded.
Make it look perfect. :)

Thanks for the suggestion Download.
I think I see what you're saying; taper the end slightly. I don't have a lathe so need to see if I can improvise.

@ helge-seins, yes that's OK you can use the picture elsewhere. (I clicked the wrong button and sent you a blank message twice (sorry))
