The mere fact that I always loved flashlights from my early childhood years is reason enough for me to own and carry multiple flashlights.
Besides that, I had an eye condition that would leave me blind around age 40 if untreated. (I had successful surgery for this 12 years ago) This gave me a fascination with light in all it's varieties.
In a sense flashlights are my 'celebrations of light', a constant reminder that I didn't go blind and can continue to enjoy the beauty around me with my eyes, even in the darkest night.
And they can be darn useful in dark places too.
