Indeed they do as my newly completed 4D 3xp7 4x18650 mag would suggest.
Cheers DW :twothumbs, pics soon.
Although its a different ball game to have dual bore, it would have to continue into the tailcap.

That's correct.

4x 18650 do fit in a 4D
I worded that badly, 4 may fit because you can use the extra depth in tailcap, but would 4D dual-bored 8 x imr18650 really fit as you can no longer use the extra length in the tailcap?

This is a very long shot due to resistive losses, but will there be be a converter any time soon with an output of 13.5A? Hoping to drive a CBT-90 at max output (evidently not in a small torch!).

Also, how conservative is the 20V max input spec? Given that 5 Li-Ions in series gives 21V when fully charged, it seems a pity to be just 1 volt over.

Currently the inductor and the heat is the limiting factor.

So theoretically with thicker inductor wires and a bigger core it should be possible. But I'm already having problems winding the currend inductor wires with 1.2mm dia.

I got the input voltage up to 24V but I wouldn't go higher since the capacitors are only rated at 25V

Thanks for the info! My build just became a fair bit easier.:twothumbs

Can understand the issues with winding wire that thick, didn't know you made them by hand though! Very neat. If you ever do make a higher power version though, I'll definitely be up for one.

Can this driver be used in an automotive application?

Will it survive the surges and dirty inputs?

I don't know if it can be used. How high are the voltage ripples?
Unfortunately I don't have a car.
Adding some capacitors and a mosfet should work I think.

yep,
4 fit fine i have 20w mr16 running on 4 18650, and you need space in the tailcap for the smaller spring, 4th 18650 stops right before the cap. that are unprotected cells, protected might be longer.
but dual borred only will fit 3 .
4 will stick past the thread. i tried, really no way.

fair enough.

i was wondering if the whole circuitcan be turend on and off via a mosfet able to handle the full supply current @ say 250Hz ?
