First off, I'm old enough to know not to run around using this on some unsuspecting person, just simply thinking for protection use.

I've seen a few designs for mini tasers (1500 volts max. at a very low milliamperage)...not very powerful but enough to get someone's attention. I like the Tennis Racquet bug zapper idea. But I want to modify it.

With a 7.2 volt 700mAh battery and a larger capacitor, could I generate a more noticeable zap without frying the rest of the circuitry? Also, I know what capacitors basically do, but don't know which size to get to not only up the output, but make the charge time quicker.

Chances are very good the designer optimized everything too work as a unit. Modifying a taser could be very dangerous and easily lead to someone dying.
Something as simple as a capacitor in a tv is charged enough to easily send a person to the hospital. (if you happen to touch the high voltage parts)
