KL1 is about 15 or 16 lumens and is a head designed for the E-series flashlights, the KL3 is I think about 25-27 lumens and for the C, D, Z and I suppose the M, P and some other series.

Logical,

Where did you get the Luminous output ratings? Some time ago PK mentioned that he felt a figure of 18 lumens was legitimate for the KL1 and I believe the KL3 is being driven a bit higher but 25? As I recall the KL2 with the 19 LED's was rated in the 20's.

It is also helpful to consider that SureFire's ratings are based on testing the actual output of light from the flashlight and not based on the ratings publshed by bulb and LED manufacturers.

McGizmo, I think your right. I thought the KL1 was 16(E1e)-17(E2e) and the KL2 was 25-27, the KL3 was 17-19 depending on 2 or 3 cell. It looks pretty close to me just eyeballing in. I can tell the KL2 is noticibly brighter.

I was going from memory (note I did say "I think"). Hey, what's a few lumens between friends?

Here are the differences "as posted" on the Surefire website:

** KL1 ** mounted on the following torches:

E1/E1e Runtime: 16 lumens max output for 1.5 hours, followed by 8.5 hours of moderate output, followed by over 50 hours of minimal output

E2/E2e Runtime: 17 lumens max output for 4.0 hours, followed by 11 hours of moderate output, followed by over 50 hours of minimal output.

** KL3 ** mounted on the following torches:

6P, D2, Z2, C2, M2 Runtime: 19 lumens max output for 4.25 hours, followed by 4.75 hours of moderate output, followed by over 50 hours of minimum output

D3, Z3, C3 Runtime: 19.5 lumens max output for 7 hours, followed by 8 hours of moderate output, followed by over 50 hours of minimum output.

Thanks Sigman. For a second I thought I had a bum KL3 being the same brightness as my KL1

There is actually more light from my KL3/M2 than the 20 lumen lamp in my 9AN even with its fully charged battery.
Since its a luxeon my guess is its about 23-25 lumens, as bright as a direct driven LS or about a current draw of something around 350-375ma.
Would be nice to know the actual specs to see what kind of efficency its getting or if its overdriven.

My numbers are very close to Sigman's. Close enough to call them the same

KL1 - E1x 16 lumens
KL1 - E2x 17 lumens
KL3 - D2 18.5 lumens
KL3 - D3 19 lumens

Being a Luxeon it wouldn't surprise me if they were within about .5 lumens from one another due to the variation in manufacturing.
