I am pretty frustrated. I received AW's softstart switch today. I installed in the deep tailcap with fully charged IMR26500 cells and it won't turn on. A few things I have done to analyze the problem:

I removed the deep tailcap. I set my Fluke meter to measure amps and placed the probes from the IMR26500 negative to the M6 body. The MN20 bulb instantly (and brillantly) came on. Clearly there is no issue with the lamp or the cells.

The only other suspect is AW's softstart switch. I removed it from the deep tailcap and installed it in a C2. There it works fine, 3 levels, flashing and I can clearly see it is softstarting.

So all the elements by themselves work fine. But when I put everything together, "this dog don't hunt".

What have I overlooked? Is there anything else to check?

EvilLithiumMan,

I haven't received my two deep tail caps yet. I suggest to check if the spring of the switch is making contact with the battery -ve. If not, try to pull the spring ( very carefully not to break it off from the pcb ) to extend it just enough to make contact. Or if the switch spring is too stiff, you may try extending the lamp module spring instead.

The spring is not the problem. It's length is fine. As a matter of fact, if you hold the tailcap next to your ear while tightning it, you can hear the spring being compressed.

But I have identified the problem. It took a close visual inspection of the deep tailcap, but I can clearly see the issue: the contact area of the deep tailcap is too far away and does not make contact with the M6 body, even when fully seated.

Despite this situation, I now have my M6 working with the IMR26500 cells, and the solution is pretty ironic - I replaced the deep tailcap with the standard tailcap fitted with your M6 softstart switch! It works great. The only issue is that with the standard tailcap fully seated, it is about 3mm away from the lanyard ring, so there is that extra gap for the ring to flop around.

Bottom line - I have a M6 fitted with IMR26500 cells and softstart / 3 level operation. Once again I am a happy modder.
