Since you are doing you work on a lathe, are you keeping the tool stationary and rotating the workpiece, or the opposite?

For what operation Fred?

I turned the tailcap shape using a live center.

While still in the centers I cut the bevel with the compound then cut the radius with the radius tool. The I moved the piece to my rotary table and cut the flutes with a 1/2 ball mill. Next I cut the threads and finally parted the tailcap off.

I have a 3 in 1 machine with a R8 Mill.

I realise this is a 5 year necro-bump, but someone mentioned the "Mag SW01" tailcap at a recent meetup, and I was promted to search for it.

A beauty of a light, indeed, that I've unknowingly replicated while pimping out my (heavily used and scratched!) 3300L :)

I'm now even prouder of it :)
