Don,

Thank you for sharing, as always, beautiful pics.
What a nice way for me to start my day here in Pa with snow falling @ 20º.

Happy New Year.

All my best to you,

Jeff

Great pics Don.
We will be arriving in Maui on the 14th, so hopefully I will be able to witness some of these creatures on my own.
Last year I was there during that storm, so paddle boarding wasn't really an option, this year I hope it's a bit calmer for me.

Don,

Your camera skills are amazing. If the flashlight thing crashes someday, you have a future in photography.

The photos you are taking are not like some types of photography where you can do endless takes, or go back to Yosemite again and again, you have one chance at it which once it is over, well it's over.

As a journalist, these are the kind of photos I love to see, and study.

You are a professional in my book. Thanks for sharing these amazing shots for us to see.

You have my respect!

Best,

NR

Post some pics of my favorite fish: the Manini! I remember seeing them everywhere when we went squiding. [ of course, in Hawaii, squiding means spear fishing for octopus ] .. :D

Rarely I find the time to read CPF again....and my pleasure is to see the very nice sea pictures took by Don :) It's as usual a small corner that I don't want to loose :)

By the way, Happy New year Don, and maybe I will return here before next year :)

My FIL got back from Kaanapali last night, and said the whales are out en force.
Any updates?

Yeah, I have been trying to keep up with the flashlight requests as well as put in as much time as possible with the wahles. We have had some bad days due to unusual weather but there have been a few gems as well.

The brown booby birds are often seen above and around the whales. They go for the fish that hang with the whales:

During one of the crappy storms that came through, a couple boats that didn't prepare for the rain and onshore surge of waves and wind
sank at their moorings. Not so good times!

Amazing pictures. Not sure when those were taken. Its 30 degrees here in La. My daughter loves your whale pictures. I have to show here these.

Yes Ironic! lol That is crazy. It looks like it is a new "wreck". Complete with a cover on the starboard bow. I see the mast is out of the water too.

Not sure about the laws, but I assume it is the owners responsibility to mark with a buoy and a flashing light at night! lol So it is kinda flashlight related too! I know if it is insured, your insurance Co pays to find and remove it quickly. Otherwise, I think the owner is liable.

Great photos! How are you getting the aerial shots? Did you buy a drone? Some of the camera equipped quad copters are pretty amazing.

Yeah, I got a DJI Phantom 2 Vision Plus and have had fun trying to keep it from ending up like those boats! There is no such thing as a safe landing out on the water or on my 11'6" RHIB. I have to catch the drone when it comes in. So far (over 2 hrs of video), so good. You can see my boat at the right in the pic below:

I got this shot today of a quick fly by of a mom, calf and escort:
