I bought the PD 35 bundle from Amazon for 109,included the I2 Nitecore charger and Nitecore 3400 battery, which to me seemed like a great deal.I am new to the 18650 scene as well but I thought this is a good start for me.
I looked at the P12 bundle as well which is 89 ,but decided on the Fenix. It just seemed to look to be higher quality and I liked the light modes on it,as far as tail standing it a 1/2 flatwasher works great under it to keep it stable.
Good luck with your purchase:).

I actually think I would like the interface on the Zebralights, but don't all of them lack a tail switch?
yes side switch, better for me but I used to be stuck on tail switches till I got a side switch light.

FYI, Selfbuilt just posted reviews on these three similar classed lights.

Nitecore P12
Fenix PD35
Thrunite T12 (2014)

kst beat me to it! If tail standing is not too important for your needs then pd35 is probably the light for you buf if tail standing is important to you..my guess would be to get the P12 due to its ability to display remaining battery voltage as compared to TN12:)
