Re: Tri-EDC 1st Run

These lights 100% require an IMR R123 or Ultrafire 18350 cell the modes are 2% 10% 100%.
OK so like it was reported it seems that there is no memory for the last mode used, but modes order is not clear as you write it in an increasing order but was reported to be in decreasing order with high first.

Could you please clarify it ?
Will there be more choice in the future concerning Lux-RC engine, one with memory ?

Titanium and brass option in the next run ?

TIA.

Re: Tri-EDC 1st Run

What is up with the ultrafire 18350 option? It looks like it has more capacity which would be nice but I just ordered 5 IMR 16340 cells.

I thought we had to use IMR cells to power this thing on high mode? Did I buy the wrong stuff?

Re: Tri-EDC 1st Run

That was what I was thinking but I dont understand enough to know what is going on.

Are they both the same size cells or different sizes?

Would be cool to have the larger capacity one but I hope it doesnt mean I loose the clip like what was talked about before.

I am trying to finalize this so I ca send my PayPal over to Mac with all the details in the message.

Re: Tri-EDC 1st Run

the 18350 is also a high discharge unprotected cell, but is is a little
larger than the IMR 16340. I did not think they would be able to be
used in the same light???

Great just spent $40 in 16340 cells and now it looks like we may be able to use these batteries instead.

I hope Mac clears this up because it seems there is another option we must have to choose if they are in fact different sizes.

On the other hand look at his web site and the battery he lists is miss written http://macscustoms.com/Products.aspx and he says 16350 then 16340 in the link for the battery to be used on the sst EDC. Maybe he meant to put R123 or 16340 and made a mistake. If the first run small batch set was a 16340 I dont see these being any different. My thinking is he meant R123 and 16340 required on high just like what is said on his web site.

Lots of lights take either 2 rcr123 (16340 ) or 1 18650 batteries. I am sure this light will take either battery, you dont have to worry about ordering a specific battery type. Remember the 1st 2 numbers are the width of the battery in mm., the 2nd 2 numbers are the length of the battery and the 0 means the battery shape is round. 18350 is 18mm wide, 35mm long and a round battery. The 2mm difference is not much for most lights (except for surefire :p )

Hope this helps,

Joe

Re: Tri-EDC 1st Run

Thanks Zeige,
Yea, that makes sense. I am going to try the 18350's, although I have read a few reviews that say the 1200 mah capacity may be a little overstated by
the manufacturer and is probably closer to 900-1000 mah. We will see......

Re: Tri-EDC 1st Run

magpullin, I have a DD SST-50 light that pulls 3A from a fully charged 18350 (yes, it's well over safety spec, but so far no issues). I get ~20 mins runtime from the light, with no hassles. It's not regulated, so current draw drops over time, but my 550mAh IMR 16340 only last 10 mins or less.

I'd be happy to "butt dyno" it at ~1100 mAh for the 18350. By the time I can make an official measurement, these'll all be sold out anyway :)

Re: Tri-EDC 1st Run

mvyrmnd, Good info there. I read the link Coach put up and Mac really
likes the run time and performance of the 18350 so I am glad he made
these lights able to use them. :)

Re: Tri-EDC 1st Run

Damn! I just wasted money on 5 batteries in 16340.

Anything I should know about these 18350's as far as treating them or charging them differently?

So when I order these batteries is there anything else I have to get?

How long does it take to get the light at this point? From old threads it seems some people got their light 2 months after the run was announced.

Man, those green and purple ones look good enough to eat! But alas, I'll have to hold out for the titanium ones, whenever those come out. Count me in for a fully-loaded titanium one, someday.

Why the love for Ti? I have read so many reviews even one posted on Macs web site that is a youtube video saying that aluminum is a better material to rid the light of heat.

Is it just exotic metals that makes them so desirable?

+1 on the battery confusion. Pardonme if it seems a bit novicelike as I am new to the whole LIo-charging setups but how is it possible for a light of the same size to fit and run on two different battery types? Even with the info Coach generously provided, a little later down the thread MAC stated he would never carry an EDC light of the 18350 sort because of the size. Wouldn't the light need to be designed to fit 18350's first and then 16340's be used with spacers? My hand hovers over the "buy it now" buttons but still so confused as to which ones?

2mm in width might cause a little battery rattle (depending on design) 1mm in length would be taken care of with the spring no problem. Not much difference in size.
