are 2 x 123 battery lights considered unsafe?

or has battery technology advanced enough that its no longer a concern?

better to stick with single 123 or muliple nicads/nimh?

This is a single RCR123 light. If a light fits 2xRCR123, then you might as well use 1x18650 which has more capacity.


...It should be fine if you use a multimeter to make sure the cell's voltage always stays above 3V and below 4.22V.

i didnt know a 18650 was the same size as 2 x 123s?

Well, not exactly, but it's very close. RCR123s, also known as 16340s, are 16mm in diameter and 34mm long. (Bet you can guess the size of an 18650!) So an 18650 is a few mm shorter and fatter than 2xRCR123s, but lots of lights have the tolerances to fit both.

If an 18650 doesn't fit, there's also the somewhat less electrically capacious 17670.
