I have one of the old EOS (25 lm, IIRC), and I am looking to mod/hack it with a CREE XP-G. I have a newer EOS, 100 lm I think .. but the IC doesn't have memory mode (or summat). The new EOS is straight HI-MED-LOW-FLASH, and I have to cycle through every mode to change it/turn it off. My old EOS has memory mode (or summat), when I pick a mode and wait a second or two, and press the button again it turns off.

I like my old EOS, but I want higher lumens. I've watched the EEVBlog about him mod/hacking his EOS, and I've found some Crees on Mouser .. but I don't know which one to get.

The list I have doesn't say if it has the star or not, which is my confusion I need help with.

CREE XP-G : Warm White, CRI 90 - http://www.mouser.com/Optoelectroni...yxq3mw&Keyword=107898291&FS=True&Ntk=P_MarCom

Usually lights with a star board are pretty easy to physically see. If the LED is surface mount soldered to the main driver board, that takes a bit of skill and equipment to remove.
