16340 mix and match?

As some of my lights need to be used with IMR's and some with protected cells, I find myself left with an odd pair - one IMR 16340 and one AW RCR123. Both are of the same age, and take a full charge. Will it be safe to use them together in a 2-cell light?

technically speaking, it would work fine though the first part of the discharge, but the problem is, the protected cell will likely have slightly more capacity than the IMR cell, and as a result, the IMR cell will go dead and be over-discharged before the protected cell shuts down the discharge... a regulated LED flashlight would be the worst to do this with.

Overall, it's best just not to do this. I would only consider it as an option in a pinch.
