I stumbled across these on ebay yesterday. I am really interested in the optic they are using for a project i'm working on. Anyone know of a similar type of lens that extents out from the LED then blooms into a wide angle?
I've seen these clear plastic posts with the 'vortex' shape molded into them, often used in LED lanterns. From my experience this creates an annoying hot spot and a lot of glare. YMMV though.

Yes I recently purchases some of those to try. They work well but they still emitted down near the base of the led. For my reflector I need to mount the led at the base but the spread needs to come about an inch higher not at the base of the led. You get what I'm saying?
Just thought I would share some pics of these!! Not really useful for the flashlight guys, but this is the best optic I've found that will illuminate a reflector housing designed for incandescence.
This is all at just under 2A the XM-L can take 3A! by my power supply cant
