EDIT - I have made more these Turbo Heads and offered them for sale. Please see info further down the thread.

Ultimate aim is to build a Spy 007 with a UV emitter. However I wanted a Fatty head with a XR27 reflector. I had the CNC guy machine me the 'fatty head' to fit the 007.

I am pleased with the outcome.

Comparison of completed Turbo Head and standard head

Below is the turbo head , xr27 reflector and ring

Side profile of head - note only 1 groove - I deliberately didn't want the extra groove to make it 1.5.

Inside the fatty head - fine thread to accept ring to secure lens

Reflector drops in place

Lens in place

Ring screwed on - it all fits in nicely to the spy to complete groove

Completed light - notice this was done on a XML host.

The spy on lowest setting

Now to go and swap the emitter to UV which I hope to do in the next few days. This will go on a xpg host as I only need a maximum of 800ma.

Beamshots added tonight

Here is a simple wall shot - both XML spy lights at full setting -1400ma. Slight difference in tints but both essentially neutral emitters

Turbo head - clearly bright hotspot - I didn't make any adjustments - just pointed and shot - there is a slight difference in shutter speed 1/10 for turbo head and 1/8 for normal spy. Aperture is 2.8 and ISO 800

Cary - thank you. I will try and do that tonight. Not very good with beamshots (never really got the hang of it properly) - but maybe I will give it a try

Make a few more that would be ready for a XM_L spy light?

Well the drawings are done and CNC program is done. So if there any one who wants one done it can be sorted I am sure. The first one is always the hardest one and that took about 5 hours from drawings to final item. Subsequent items should not take more than a hour to machine if done in batches. There are numerous operations involved - turning, boring, cutting 2 sets of threads each requiring tool changes and setting up. It was a nice challenge and I am glad it came out nice. I now need to see if the XR27 reflector will make a significant difference to the beam profile.

That is great Mohan. Not sure if I would be brave enough to mod my XM-L. You are a brave man
I love the look of that Turbo head. Greatly increased throw?

Dave

Not had a chance to try beam comparisons - will wait until I Finnish work this evening and get home tonight. I made the head to fit in a xpg host that will have a UV emitter. However to swap the head takes less than 1 minute as it literally requires bezel to be loosened , reflector taken out and head to be unscrewed. New head screws in and the whole thing is tightened by screwing the outside ring tight.

As you know I was on a SWM V10r Ti for a while and now turned my attention to the Spy Lights. I needed to accumulate a few hosts so I could set about trying various mods.

This looks fantastic Mohan!

This is what I have been waiting for before trying to acquire a 007... Now the hunt begins. I need to decide if I want an xml or xpg 007.

Wow!, Mohan that really looks great. The whole head looks like it could be original to the light. I vote for those beam shots as well.

Beamshots added to first post. There is a considerable difference. To really validate this properly I think I ought to take the beamshots with the same light with different reflectors to eliminate any bias. However this is cumbersome for me - I wanted to demonstrate that the XR27 reflector makes a demonstrable difference to the throw. Both the lights are XML lights which have been reset to factory defaults. The lights were shone approx 10m /30 feet away from the driveway.

I think you would see an even bigger difference between the turbo head versus the stock head with an XP-G version

I would like one complete ready to screw in. Another ring to match the origional would even be better.

Mohan Mohan Mohan, you never cease to amaze me.
I don't even have a 007 and now you give me ideas to get another for this mod.
You are really bad influence for my pocket... :)
Congrats.

This turbo head is the reason why I'm finally taking the plunge for a 007.

Hey Mohan, is the front lens held in with an o-ring? I can't really tell from the pictures

No I didn't mount a O ring as I had a very think lens at 2.6mm - I need to find thinner glass as 1.5mm / less than 2mm really. Mounting a o ring should not be a problem as it can sit between glass and washer ring.
