Brass (copper?) star on FastTech

Hello,

FastTech just listed a brass star base plate http://www.fasttech.com/products/1/10004183/1315314-cree-xm-l-20mm-brass-star-base-plate

What advantage does a brass baseplate has over aluminum? brass thermal conductivity appears to be half of aluminum.

Maybe that's a copper star?

It appears from the pictures that the center pad isn't copper, but rather a dielectric layer.

Until its verified by the employees at fasttech I wouldn't get too excited just yet.

If it's dialetric, could we scrap it and solder the LED center directly to the copper board underneath?

You could but the solder layer would be pretty thick relative to the positive and negative pads. Intl-outdoor has a better copper mcpcb that should be similar in performance and function compared to a sinkpad.

Their staff confirmed that there is a dielectric layer.
