Hey all, for her birthday I'm giving my GF a SF E1D I've been building with TNT Single LED upgrade. I want to give it to her in a nice little travel friendly case, something she can put the light in when she packs in in her day pack or travel suitcase.

What do you use for your small lights and what do you recommend?

Here's the light!

I don't follow SF lights much. What are the modifications to this SureFire E1D? That's a sick looking light by the way. Even just from the pictures it looks really durable.

SF never made an E1D so you have to make it yourself. You need the correct head and tail from an E2D and the body from a black E1e (E1e-BK). E2D tails are easy to come by but for some reason the heads aren't. Easiest way is to find an older incandescent E2D (it uses the correct style head) in good shape and and E1e-BK and swap the bodies. Then you end up with two lights still.

From there you can upgrade to a solid LED setup up to 800+ lumens. The biggest problem is that the black E1e was discontinued a while ago and was extremely rare compared to the HA-Grey ones. Finding one is a huge waiting game... and you have to be ready to shell out pretty good money for them. New in box E1e-bk's auctions are usually around $250+ and have been known to go as high as $400+.... when they were only $90 new. Obviously the $400+ was a little bit of an anomaly, but clearly two people really wanted it in that auction!

Spyderco travel case (small/ #C18C) perhaps?.

This is exactly what I was looking for.... now to find a better looking one with maybe a pocket. I should have figured to look for premium knife cases! Thanks.

Very nice light! I am very interested in the specifics of the LED conversion.

Pick your poison, this one has the 460+ lumen SingleLED in this thread customized specifically for my GF to a M-L-H setting with lower % output for Medium for longer run time.

My next light will have one of these TripLED setups! = )

BTW I found a company that makes TONS of little organizer pouches that are PERFECT for lights! Wish I found ones that were made in USA, but they have a great reputation and are very well thought out!

Right now I'm leaning towards the Mini or maybe even the Micro. This is the mini:

And for smaller ones their knife cases are perfect as well! This is the R-7 tactical

Thank you for the information! I have an original, silver-colored E1E sitting at home that I am looking to upgrade to LED. I will have to speak with this gentleman.

Regarding the case, I think you are making a good decision in going with Maxpedition. They make a very good product. The process you describe for making the E1D looks like it cost you more than the vast majority of off-the-shelf lights would cost, so it is worth protecting when your girlfriend is not carrying or using it.
