Hey Folks,

I guess I'll be looking at the Inconel option for another project some time further down the line, then. Unfortunately the metal itself is expensive, and machining it takes far more time than titanium and wears out the tools much quicker. The one piece battery tube, with a blind, deep, and narrow bore, among a few other features are nice for overall quality, but they do make the part rather more difficult to machine. I've got a couple of lights planned for the future with a design that may be better suited to being made in Inconel; we'll see if it's feasible then. :)

Later tonight I'll be pulling down the ordering page for the Makos. If anyone is on the fence, now's the time to make your decision.

I expect to be receiving the machined parts sometime in March now, and will keep you all apprised of things as they move along.

Take care folks.

FrenchyLED: I have no plans to do another run of Makos, and the cost of doing a separate small run in Inconel would be significantly higher than it is now due to having to amortize the setup costs over a much smaller number of pieces and wouldn't be worthwhile to do.

It's not a big deal to me either way, but I will make some light, at some point, out of that metal since I do like it's characteristics. It may end up being a one-off, but it will happen!

Inconel is exotic stuff and very difficult indeed. F1 car exhaust pipes are fabricated from a variation of inconel. A specialised craftsman is needed who does nothing else but make those exhausts!

I would like to order the Mako Titanium. I'll place my order at this page here? International shipping with insurance is fine?

Oh and will the final run of these lights have easily visible serial numbers? Hope they don't!

If someone didn't tell you, you wouldn't know Inconel from your bog common variety stainless steel.
I see no advantage to using this material except for the fact that it is "exotic".
The fact that it can achieve a high Rockwell hardness would be great because of the scratch resistance for EDC applications, but the weight of this metal is a deal breaker for me personally. Titanium is just about the heaviest metal I like to carry.

AF - Thanks for the Inconel information. I suspect that in a small light like the Aeon, weight would not be an issue. It might be nice for a tiny EDC like that.

"bog common" Common as a bog? Can't remember the last time I saw a bog. :D

Armed_Forces: I already explained in posts 163 and 156 the whole idea behind tacking a small batch of Inconel lights on at the end of the titanium run since I have the opportunity to do so now and didn't prior. If you're unhappy with the way I'm running my project, I would really prefer you take a refund rather than stay on board something you're uncomfortable with.

shuter: I won't be making another run of Aeons for a while. Take a look on Google Image Search for some photos of stuff made from Inconel X-750 - I can't "hotlink" here and I don't want to use pictures that aren't my own.

Flea Bag: Why the hate? 555 relates to 555 timers, which you can make anything from! ;)

The Makos do not have serial numbers on them.

Enrique I look forward to seeing what kind of project you will do in Inconel. I have never machined Inconel, but I have done some welding on it :)

At least I can start saving some money for a future Inconel project. :)

Needless to say I am happy to hear that things are moving forward on the Mako. I guess I had better make a couple calls to a friend that was on the fence over buying one. :poke:

Well I guess I should have proof read that first comment a little better. :ohgeez:

This isn't my first rodeo.
I have waited years for each of my Randall knives.
I would hope that you valued honest comments when soliciting opinions rather than sycophantic agreement.
I'm leaning towards thinking you do because you revised your Mako design after our last exchange. :goodjob:

P.S. I love my Aeon! It's a show stopper every time I break is out. :D
Keep up the great work and I'll try to refrain from commenting unless I have something superlative to say. :twothumbs

Sorry for the confusion Enrique! PSM was being very nice not to say that I'm really just a nut who should be ignored. When it comes to serial numbers and number-based superstitions, there is no bigger PITA than me! MUHAHAHAAHAH! :shakehead Do a search for the words "serial number" and my username in CPF and especially in the marketplace and you'll see what damage I've been doing!

Since there's no serial number on the Makos, :paypal:

Hope you got my order! (Paypal ID 72390050KE8472817)
