Fenix E21 - first impressions

lithium primary batteries (non-rechargeable) - Yes
lithium-Ion batteries (rechargeable) - No.

Just FYI - I am running my E21neutral on NiZN rechargeables, which are advertized as 1.6v. Runs great, but like the lithium primaries, the difference between high and low is negligable so I don't get a high-runtime low mode.

That's what I like about it too. No bells and whistles. Pure utility.

R2 =150 lumens

Q4= 135 lumens

I have decided E21 will be my first flashlight. But dont know which is better among R2 and Q4. (both model was added sept 2,2010 of fenix catalog.)

Is the Q4 output color yellowish and R2 whitish?

Among these two models, which light that is bright enough and not kind to the eyes if focus to a bad guy?

Those lumens seem to be a bit underrated.
My E21 with R2 gives more lumens than my LD20 Q5 which is advertised as 180 lumens.

There is no common consensus as to which one is better. Some prefer the brighter cooler tint light and some prefer the warmer tint but slightly less bright light.

I chose the white tint one (150 lumens). I like that colour better, is brighter and will make for a great backup if I get any power outage. (48 lumens @ 11hrs)

Sounds like fenix has taken these lights out of the eagletac playbook. It sounds like a p100a2 or p100c2. I have given a few of those lights as cbristmas gift and it made for some very happy and impressed recipients. I am sure the fenix will get the same result. Sounds like a great deal on a basic but quality flashlight.

Agree, ever since I bought the E21 NW I've decided to switch to Neutral White.. I use them mainly outside and they render objects better imo.

not sure, think they might be the same. -as long as the light remains at the same "regulated" output level until the battery(s) are nearly exhausted - a very "flat" (always the same) output it's the good one

Newer emitter (brighter, better throw), heavier construction (thicker walls, etc.), plastic/rubber coated battery tube.

As B0ws3r said and E20 is only one output level but adjustable focus.
Wait, the E21 hasn't plastic grip, that's the LD25.

I would pick the E21 before E20 if I was going to buy one of them (but I already have LD25)

Got one of these for my grandpa for his birthday, with the R2 emitter. They're really well made, and as other people have said, an excellent basic but high-quality light. He was definitely impressed by the build quality.
