Ideas for the next SC53 ?

First thing would be for me at least is a faster strobe.
But a optional locator beacon that is easily turned on and off I could use.
What are your thoughts ?

Personally I think they would sooner make an SC52 MK II with an XM-L2 and the latest bin they can get their hands on.

The SC53 would have to use the next emitter after XM-L2, IMO.

Yeah, the obvious update is to give it their new PID thermal stepdown for max mode and drop the timed one. That would be much more a 'MK II' thing though, I doubt we'll see an SC53 for at least a year.

Having just recently picked up a SC52w I can say that I prefer the body and head of the SC52/SC52w over the SC51. Before I received it I was not a fan of the new styling at all. But with it in hand, the body style adds so much to the grip and the larger head is needed for preventing accidental activation, as well as added heat dissipation.

I'd like all the new features from SC600 mkII L2 except the thermal controller. Personally, I wouldn't care much about "smart" overheating protection in SC5x series at all because it'd just dim it very quickly without any considerable benefits. A short dumb timer (even 30 seconds would be fine—I only need turbo for longer time when I'm using my SC600 as a bike lamp) that nevertheless maintains brightness would be of larger benefit to me than PID-controlled turbo that goes from 700 to 350 lumen, and drains the battery in a matter of minutes. Bragging rights and all, but not much point otherwise.

Actually nevermind, I'd just rather have an SC82/SC83 or a T5. 1xAA is so much better with a tailclicky.

I actually REALLY like the nice, smooth, even, floody beam that lights up a large area. It makes the current SC52w a great hiking light. Not to mention that using a smaller, less efficient emitter (like the XP-G2) would significantly reduce output. On the other hand, a choice of either XM-L2 or XP-G2 would be good so that you could choose between flood and throw. Perhaps a choice between smooth and orange peel reflector would not be a bad idea, either.

Of course, they should also go with a higher binned, cool white XM-L2 for the cool white SC52. That way, they could get output above 300 lumens. Why they didn't do this when they came out with the SC52w is beyond me, especially given the fact that this is such a simple change.
