    CR1,2,3,BANG! (incident description & questions)

I immediately looked up the Seoul U-bin P4 emitters and I'll definitely be looking into them. Having said that... I'd like to find one with a small emitting area and NO LENS. The biggest problem with capturing LED light with fiber is gathering as much light as possible into, say, a 3mm diameter...

    CR1,2,3,BANG! (incident description & questions)

There is no totally logical response to assessment of risk other than to risk nothing ever. Indeed it is the improbability of incident, not the possible consequences of incident, that we take as comfort when we get in a car, irrationally denying that one in a million could happen this time...

    CR1,2,3,BANG! (incident description & questions)

...and honestly I've never considered the occasional small incendiary or explosive event, or lightning I can hear and see, to be a serious threat to life, but then I've also flown single engine airplanes at night and still drive over 100 miles a day. I'm not alarmist by any measure.

    CR1,2,3,BANG! (incident description & questions)

Really we had no idea there was any risk until this incident. I have a "version" of the light (with a 900 mA converter which I fitted with a lens and a third battery for endurance that throws more light down a dark river than my Inova "Bolt" or the T4) that has resided in my pocket for a couple...

    CR1,2,3,BANG! (incident description & questions)

Well, 4 years ago it was a pretty good choice. In the application the III's small 1mm square die was more effective at putting light into a tiny receiving area than the V's four dies that slung light everywhere else. And runtime, and heat... And we're not going to redesign parts every few months.

Specifically, it would be a marketing guy more than the beancounter that wanted to sell batteries instead of simply telling customer what batteries to use, and also wanted to apply the standard x3 resell markup... and still be a better deal than 2 Duracells in a blister pack at $15... (This...

    CR1,2,3,BANG! (incident description & questions)

I've got to thank you all for the most informative and helpful responses; I'm astounded at the reaction! I gather that of the recognized brand X names "Tenergy" is a real loose cannon and should be avoided (It was indeed a Tenergy battery that failed for us.) I further gather that...

    CR1,2,3,BANG! (incident description & questions)

OK, these cells are a pair dedicated to testing product. They had identical service. The "surviving" (not utterly destroyed) one has a full charge by meter but doesn't seem to be able to carry a load. I've read that Lithiums do that... My biggest question is about the on-board protective...

    CR1,2,3,BANG! (incident description & questions)

I'm a development engineer for a fiberoptics applications company. Our pioneer LED product is basically a high-end LD flashlight with a port to receive the input post of a fiberoptic scope for looking around in body cavities with. The engine is a LUX III and one of Wayne's DownBoy (now Son Of...

Need assistance bulding LUX III unit

Just glue it directly to the metal (heatsink). Copper is the best heat conductor you can get at a hardware store, twice as conductive as aluminum. Note that the "slug" of the emitter is electrically connected to the die inside and must not be grounded or connected to the LED circuit. Make...

    Beware of flashlight bombs...

Bernouli is Venturi's brother and they are alive and well. In the case of a free moving body the pressure changes due to relative velocity differences are the immediate forces that cause a generalized circulation of air from under the body (compressed and relatively lower velocity, being...

    Inova T4 Review, beamshots added

Has anyone taken one of these T4s apart past the battery compartment and the front flat lens? I've twisted mightily on mine and have been unable to budge the obvious seam between handle and head. I'm trying to get a look at that big chunk of TIROS and the electronics.

Inova T4 -- Charger LED color and more?

They changed the design of the charger. old: blue when charging, then goes off. new: blue when charging, then turns green. That way you can be sure that the flashlight is engaged on the contacts and the power to the charger is on.
