    Defensive light recc

It would help your position if the word "Defender" were not prominently written on the flashlight. Better for it to say "Executive Illuminator" than "Executive Defender." However, I think the attitude one takes, and unfortunately his or her appearance, go a long way towards swaying the...

HDS 42 XR GT vs CR2 Ion vs Orb Raw vs P1

If I used a flashlight as part of my work, or spent a lot of time outdoors at night or in caves or other dark places, I would EDC my HDS Basic 42. But in an urban environment, I find the Basic 42 way too large to have on me all the time. If I'm out at night and think I'll use a light, it's...

what's the difference between an HDS 42 XR GT and Ultimate 42?

With the basic model, you can't set any of the four brightness levels. They are preset. You also can't set the brightness level the light goes to when you first turn it on. That is also preset. Here are the four levels: Maximum Primary Secondary Minimum The basic will always turn on to...

    HDS EDC.... worth it?

Based on the B42XRGT I got from Lighthound, I would be interested in any light Henry produces. Especially something thinner/smaller but with HDS's fantastic engineering and quality.

    Light pipe

I agree that the Maglite in the photo could have been adjusted much better. But I can think of one application for his invention I would use almost every day: a book light! I hate the spill I get from my current method for reading at night, and would love to see something that's uniformly...

    Light pipe

I saw Robert Fischer's Light Pipe invention at Grand Central Station a few weeks ago. The History Channel Modern Marvels Invent Now Challenge had their 25 semi-finalist inventors on hand along with their inventions. The Light Pipe really works. It's fascinating - like a cross between a...

    HDS EDC.... worth it?

Same here, with the exception of a Photon on my keyring. I would carry something in my pocket up to the size of a 1 AA light, but definitely not the HDS EDC, as that's substantially larger (i.e. thicker). But I have no problem at all with the EDC in a jacket pocket.

    HDS EDC.... worth it?

I agree with meeshu about the size of the EDC. It's not the light you want to carry in your pants pocket every day. But if you have another way to carry it, or you're going camping or doing another outdoor activity, then it's not very big at all. It's very small for its power. It's nothing...

    HDS EDC.... worth it?

It won't go back up because once the Basic 42's sell out, no more will be made. They'll be replaced by new models. That's the reason why they're on sale - it's a close-out. If you have $99 and can find an EDC Basic 42 XRGT anywhere, definitely buy it! I love mine. It would be nice to have...

    I just orded a HDS B42XRGT!

Wow, that's definitely worth the upgrade! Originally it was $20, so it would take several batteries for it to be worth it, but at the $5 sale price, it's a no brainer. Thanks for the info, Hondo. :)

    I just orded a HDS B42XRGT!

I don't understand how the extended runtime (XR) model works. How does it get more juice out of the battery? Is there any downside to it, or do the XR lights run for longer on every setting than the non-XR models?

Buy now, or wait for something better?

What about creating a budget for your flashlight hobby, then buying a new light periodically? For example, let's say you budgeted $25 a month to this hobby. That's $300 a year. Then, set the minimum period during which you will wait to buy a new light. Let's say that was every two months...

    TID for fenix lights???........

The pressure-used-for-strong-encouragement technique and the strike-with-all-your-force technique are two very different applications of a flashlight used for self-defense. I wonder how much a TID would help the pressure techniques if one used the techniques correctly. The bottom end of a...
