R.O.P. Roar of the Pelican mini-FAQ/master thread

Re: Powering the ROP Just remember, everything is a compromise. You'll get a bit more light going 7 cells, but you will also shorten the life of the ROP. :) Cheers.

    Is ROP/Pelican 3854 really 1150 lumens?

Hmmmm...I been using 7 cells (Sanyo 2500s) on ROP for the last two months and no instant flash yet, and this is right off the charger. Quality control issue?

    I instaflashed a ROP bulb

I been running 7 AA on ROP with three of my flashlights without a problem. Perhaps the AA have more voltage sage than your C size batteries.

So... Can a Surefire REALLY saw through another flashlight?

I dunno, this claim may be inflated. I love Surefire, but the L4 body appears to be made of brass or a brass alloy, which is harder than the minimag's aluminum body. During inspection, mine L4 body have a brass color internally. Can someone prove otherwise? Is it the coating or the...

Irritating trend in automotive lighting - PWM taillights

Blah, distraction is a state of mind. Likek Galiphrey, I will see it only if I stare at it, and then shift my eyes to something else very quickly. To me, there are other things far worst, like billboards, yapping on the cell phone while driving, staring at UFOs flying by, etc.

Are these battery toasted on the long haul?

Re: Are these battery toast on the long haul? Ok, recharged batteries in Energizer 15 minute charger. Waited 30 minutes and installed batteries back into the Canon 550EX speedlite flash (measured about 1.43 volt each) Flashed 93 times (fully recharged before flash burst) before I gave up...

Are these battery toasted on the long haul?

I had to use the camera today for the Los Angeles Auto Show, and realize some how I left the batteries in the Flash in the 'on' position for over three weeks. I measured the batteries and it's reading about .928 millivolt each. I will try to recharge them and see if they'll still work. The...
