    Without a battery, you will also inadvertently face the worst-case scenario of an alternator one day, an alternator that has nothing to feed, blowing up its circuitry. (pulling the battery-clamps while the engine is running is a general bad thing for similar reasons)

    But didn't the mount also have (2) geared positioning controls/wheels? Or were these just tightening knobs? Geared control would make it quite valuable in my opinion. (enough to even start modifying the housing of an AN/VSS-1)
