That's what I seem to have become.

Yesterday, my FMR1 died (DX are getting it back, NMF)

Today, my DX AAA cree - well...

I was trying to fit one of Sigman's little GID O-rings over the thing and that happened. It works, but beam pattern is.. interesting.

*pokes*

Hmm.. It's the glue, not the lens that's causing the weird pattern.
The lens was glued into position. Is this normal?

Did the o-ring trap heat and cook the glue off? I use the GlowInc premix V10 for inside bezel work, and V9 powder and epoxy for mixing on outside. V10 too rough for external light app.

No, as it turns out, the lens is held on with some sort of goop that surrounds the die, I must have nudged the lens trying to get the o-ring over the emitter, or something.

I was pushing and poking at an awkward angle, as I can't get the head off to access just the pcb, when it went *crink* and mucked up the beam.

This is the first time I've picked the phosphor coating off an LEDs die. (I was removing the glue, out of sheer curiosity.)

I have put this down to experience (lack of, now gained), and there's another one on the way!:twothumbs

I also have some V10 powder coming (they won't ship the paint internationally).

You'll love the powder! Just be prepared for the large grit size..... Oh and use the forum to find out which epoxy is best to mix with. I reccomend Devcon 2 ton epoxy for a good affordable clear set with enough time to properly work it, the 5 min isn't enough.

I just hope I haven't been too over-enthusiastic, and bog-standard slow setting Araldite will work...
:ohgeez:

I can always bed the grains into it, instead of mixing it up.

Yes you can. And cover the grains with Krylon crystal clear top coat which has no UV filters in the paint. That way your glow mods say put with use, no grain flaky!
