LightHound keychain 5mm light review

Just got the Lighthound Keychain Flashlight Blue Body, White LED flashlight. I obtained this light from the recent Flashlight Camping Weekend 6 (FCW-6 2010) the light was generously provided by Lighthound for the FCW-6 campers to evaluate and then put up for raffle. Uses two CR2016 batteries which can be replaced via the removal of 4 small screws.


Your keys are a great place to have a flashlight. Generally you have your keys with you, so you will always have a flashlight. Lighthound says that these are NEW PCB controlled keychain flashlights, press once for on, press again for off.
A 5mm LED puts out a surprising amount of light, more than enough to navigate in the dark and the weight and
bulk is nothing.

These things "FauxTon"s as they are commonly referred to are quite nice.

Lighthound tosses 1 into every order and they work quite nicely. It makes a good cheap giveaway to buddies at work.

One cool thing about these particular ones is that they Squeeze once to turn on and squeeze once to turn off. Most of them are squeeze to turn on, let go to turn off.

They are 99 cents each if you want multiples from Lighthound. Deal Extreme also has packs of them for really cheap if you happen to order something from them.

Pretty well constructed, too. Good switch feel. I only have one even though I've done 2-3 LH orders :thinking: , but it's sitting safe & sound in a keychain ring attached to the interior of my briefcase. I open it up in the dark & it's right there to illuminate the contents if needed. I'm sure I'll be using it for years. A good little light, & thanks for the review. :thumbsup:

Ah, those little Lighthound lights are great. I have several.

I have a couple & they are great! My son carries one at work. A power outage hit & everyone was using it for potty break. It really came in handy that day.

I buy these keychain lights by the bagful from LightHound and give them away to non-flashaholics. Must test each one first because a few have arrived defective. LightHound has always sent extra lights along in each batch to make up for the anticipated DOA lights.

I only have 2 of these, i also have some of the Photon2 Clones that they used to give away, including one with a random coloured led (changes from blue, green red, white etc)

to be honest i prefer the older style ones, i find these will switch on on my keys, and stay on, whereas the older ones would only switch on while the pressure was there, i find the problem occurs with my photon freedom too (it is currently occupying the role of flashlight - "a receptacle for dead batteries")

they do make an excellent gift for non flashaholics, and are a nice little bonus with every order.

I have a couple of similiar ones, but they have black bodies, from illumination gear.com - he puts one in with every order too. They work very well. I was surprised at the amount of light they put out for their size.

I have one clipped to my Seraph (1 mode) P7 for a low mode

I've always ordered more than $75 from them on each order just so I could get the free shipping.

I gave my girlfriend one of these free Lighthound lights for her keychain and she loves it. I've offered to buy her a nicer AAA or AA powered light to replace it, but so far she has declined because she's perfectly happy with the light weight and small size of the free Lighthound one.

I've even caught her playing with it a few times at night when we've gone for evening walks together. Yes, believe it or not guys, there are girls on this planet that like to play with flashlights too! They may not admit to it, like my girlfriend, but they do. She didn't deny it when I told her "see...flashlights are fun!" after I caught her red handed shining the light all over the place that night.

I did a runtime test on a DX fauxton a while back. Crazy thing lasted over 100 hours before I gave up. Of course it was pretty feeble at the end. And its initial high brightness was goene within the first 1/2 hour. But it had a good 8 hours in which it could legitimately be called a working flashlight. After that experiment, I lost interest in the runtime-extending trick of using a 2032 cell instead of the usual pair of 2016's.

I'm having trouble finding the thread where I posted the results of that test, but it was in early 2006, I think.
