I would be curious to know if the referenced XP-L was dedomed. Looking at the numbers, I am making an uneducated guess that it probably was.

6200 temp seems too high to be dedomed? I believe the XP-G3 NLT was 325 lm @ 5000 temp. Anyway this is out of my pay grade, I just eat the cake, I don't know how to make it.

yes, XP-L Hi is a factory domeless LED:
"the XP-L HI LED delivers 120 percent more candela than the XP-L HD"

XP-G3 (NLT) should be similar spec. to the one on your link listed as:

Modded - XP-L HI 3D3226200 cd157 meters

The XP-G3 has a dome, the XP-L Hi has no dome...
maybe someday somebody will do an actual Candela and Throw test for the NLT.. It would eliminate a lot of guessing without evidence ;-)

That's true, I just go in the back yard and see how far I can see with it. On another note, you should try an HDSRB bezel if you haven't already. Get all the throw you could possibly want with it.
 
The HDSRB bezel is great, but makes the light a little too wide to easily pocket.

Good point. I'm still trying to find a solution to this. In the pic below the 123 on the right, even with the Novatac vinyl caps fits perfectly in my front pocket.

The 123 on the left with the HDSRB bezel is another story. May have to try to find someone who knows something about leather to make some kind of holster for it.. Or in pocket bezel up? Hate to do that though..

fwiw, here are a couple of throw specs for stock HDS and w HDSRB head:

---
HDS w stock XP-L HD: Throw 112 meters,
w HDSRB head: Throw 173 meters
an increase of 55%

---
HDS w stock Luminus SST-20: Throw 111 meters
w HDSRB head: Throw 178 meters
an increase of 60%
---

88% spot intensity increase is very impressive.
fwiw, that calculates to an increase in throw of 37% by DeDoming the 519a 5700K.

I have not seen any data to tell us the throw of the Domed 519a 5700K in an HDS..

Thanks for the link Jon, I hadn't seen that latest review on the HDSRB. Very interesting read, comprehensive. My experience with the HDSRB tends to agree with his review statement:

".. through testing a very consistent increase in throw (around 57%) and cd/lm (around 153%). Your specific throw numbers would be different, but you can probably expect these increases as well. "

I've tried it on a few different HDS lights, currently it is on my NC50. Looking forward to trying it on a NA52.

One thing to add since it gets used on much lower settings for normal use the battery goes further. If you need to look deep into a crevice, hole or den the HDSRB spot beam really pokes the light in.

Sounds like an HDSRB 2.0 may possibly be under consideration. Wonder how HDS folks would react to a slightly smaller more rounded mini-mag type bezel.. Just thinking.

The idea is cool but I think there is top lese demand for it. I habe in mind if 10 HDS Lights are sold only one or two are clickies.

But if HDS is doing the tailcap why not a stainless Steel clicky body? The price is not that high like BeCu or Titanium. Therefore maybe more interest?

A small batch is too expensive, a large batch will never be sold out, I think so. If only to make some prepaid amount 50-100 pcs, as they do general joint purchases in Malkoff, but I'm afraid to imagine how long it will take))
 
The numbers just don't support much with the Clicky. The Clicky now has more of a cult following. When our stock of the parts for them are gone, they will most likely be discontinued.
If someone else wants to start an interest thread for a stainless clicky, go for it, but I honestly don't think you will get the numbers required for a run. The smaller the number, the more expensive it gets as well.
 
Are there any big changes planned for the regular rotary? Internal or external? If there was a way later of replacing the rubber boot that’d be a massive step up, i usually have steel chips and other rough abrasives on my hands while i work and i often find myself reaching for something like an olight when working because i don’t care as much if that gets messed up whereas being without my flashlight for potentially months due to a ruptured boot is a scary thought.

dont worry, the Clicky and Rotary use the same rubber buttons.

Same parts for both Clicky and Rotary:
1. Rubber Switch Boots.
2. Heads and all the parts, including Reflectors, lenses, bezels, electronics. (programmed differently, but same hardware)

Different Parts between Clicky and Rotary:
1. body tubes
2. tailcaps
3. tailswitch

If you need to replace the button on a rotary, either send it to HDS, or if you have the skills and inclination, follow this tutorial.

That’s one crazy design under that rotary tailcap. Very interesting how that works

I’d think the removal and replacement (and reindexing) of the circuit board would be the critical step, but unfortunately that’s not explored in the tutorial.
