1/3 aaa charging?

well, I just got my short body worm and maratac. now I have to get 1/3 aaa's and a way to charge them. I have the Maha c9000 and im sure i can overcome the fact that they are real short, just with a batter rated for 120mah, the lowest setting of 200mah kinda seems too high for nimh.
Any suggestions on this one?

I would recommend using a decent hobby charger. You can fine-tune a lot of different parameters including voltage and current. As well as monitoring temperature.

I'm hoping for something kinda plug and play... It would be great if cottonpicker made a nimh charger with adjustable settings like his li-ion chargers.

I have been saying the same thing in other posts and apparently it is a little bit more difficult to create something like that for nimh.

You would need a charger that ideally charges between 60 mAh and 100 mAh. Besides a hobby charger I don’t know anything that even comes close to those charge rates. And even then most of the ones I know are 100 mAh as the low setting.

The Maha C9000 won't go for it, I've tried. I charge mine on an Intellicharger. Works fine.

I got the miniworm, too. Couldn't charge the cells on my c9000. I am going to try another charger. The Conrad store shows hobby chargers, but I don't want to go down that path. I have 10180 Li-ions and an appropriate charger for them and may use them instead of the NiMH cells. I've tried a 10440 in the worm and a 10180 in the miniworm and they work fine. Less capacity, but we weren't talking about days of runtime to begin with.

I contemplated doing li-ion instead of the NiMH. Don't wanna fry my led, but getting a cottonpickers would make charging easy. Still with there was a option like cottonpickers for NiMH batteries.

I wouldn't say that making a charger capable of low-rate charging would be hard, likely involving at worst relatively minor changes in the electronics and uncomplicated changes in the charger code, but demand would seem likely to be fairly limited.

If the cell could cope with a low average charge rate with short high-current peaks (or the charger already had the capacity to control the peak charging current) and the charger already had a physical user interface (ie setup switches) sufficient to enable a charge choice to be made, it could be that no changes to the electronics would be needed at all.

The light engine and emitter won't fry. You will lose the nice Lows and slightly better runtimes. Still sweet lights.

I got a Sanyo Quick Charger model NC-MDR02V and it worked. Needed to use a little 1.6mm magnetic spacer along with the alum spacer provided. Charge rate is probably a little high, but it worked.

So do you think it will work with any nimh charger ? Also what is a magnetic spacer ? Do you have a picture or a link? thanks

I ended up getting a set of adaptors from MartinDWhite at the market place. It sits inside the charger on the AAA rails and have wires with magnets on the end that attach to the little cell. Works fine.

The little magnetic spacers are from lighthound. You need to buy a lot of them to get free shipping, lol.
