Hi all
I've not been on the flahlight boards much recently so don't know the recent models

I want a single aa - (nimh) good 'spread' led light for going in my back garden; garage etc.

thin pencil beam not wanted!

I like lumapower & jetbeam which I've had before. I like clickie on off buttons - not keen on fenix twistie type. Also owned tiablo before but that was a thrower :naughty:

I liked my fenix P1D Q5 for the spread & colour - it just seems to light up the path better than any others, but it has the wrong type of battery (CR123) as well as being a twistie!

cost is important too! cheaper is better but I don't like the dealxtreme type websites I like batteryjunction; 4sevens etc

must be hard anodised aluminium too - not plastic

any recommendations?! I'm in the UK if it matters...

ps really really want simply UI - ie low; high; off

no strobe etc
!!!

How about the Nitecore D10. The Nightcore has variable adjustment via a piston drive as opposed to a clickie button. Just ramp up or down to desired level. A minimum of 3 lumens is availble with a double tap and maximum of around 100 lumens with a tap press. It will also remember the last level used. Fenix L1Tv2 is also a good option for a simple UI.

isn't the only way of turning on the Fenix L1T by turning the head?

or have I got that wrong?

I don't want one like that I need a simple click button interface!

so nitecore only real recommendation so far

what's it like? How does the Piston Drive actually work from a user point of view? Is there still a 'button' I press on the end of the torch?

is the various levels a real fag*? or is it ok?

(*that means pain in the backside for you americans  )

You turn the L1T on with a forward clicky switch at the rear. If the head is loose, the light operates like a single mode light in the low mode. If the head is tight, the head operates in high mode as a single mode light.

You never have to turn the head if you use the same mode. You only change the position of the head if you want to change to the 2nd brightness level.

It is by far the most simple multiple-mode light I can think of. There is no multiple-click interface, and is VERY easy to use by even non-flashaholics.

Pushing the button turns the light on. Twisting the head adjusts the brightness between high and low. If you want, you can tighten the head for high or loosen it for low and keep it at that setting forever. Turn it on with the push button and you will have the level of light you want every time the light comes on. You don't have to rotate or use the other level ever again if you don't want to. You just have to adjust it initially for high or low.

ok so apart from my ignorance, does the L1T compare well to other models with regard to spread?

that is my main requiremtent here

thanks all

hello im in the uk myself imho for the money fenix are way ahead of other brands atmo plus we now have a official fenix dealer in the uk .recently bought myself a pd 20 which has a forward clickie tail switch with 4 modes in general mode ie lo med hi +sos twist the head and you get turbo mode +strobe 180 lumens on one cr 123 , but you can buy other bodies to suit your battery needs ie single aa body or 2 aa body using the pd 20 head .just a thought . My other light is a led lenser p 7 which is another good choice imho .lol cliff

I would look at the Nitecore D10 or the new Lumapower Connexion. I have the D10 and like it. I also have the CR123 powereed Lumapower IncenDion which is similar to the AA Connexion and would also recommend the Lumapower. The new Connexion has some nice improvements over the older version and is a good all around light.

The Lumapower reflector is a bit more shallow than most and allows nice spill along with a nice spot.

Akoray K-106 (DX sells it for $22) with Cree Q5 and three user-programmable modes. I'm testing one for review right now, and I'm very impressed with it. Just about the only bad thing about it (for you, not for me) is that the beam isn't very warm at all.

Maybe a zebralight?

I second that! I go night fishing and whether I'm rummaging around in the boat cabin or taking a pee off a breakwater, Zebra is my first choice. If you are able to move up to a different battery config, an 18650 powered MC-E with a shallow reflector has power, spread, and good color rendition. But for hands-free pure functionality, imho, go Zebra.

L1T-V2 fits the bill. I find it floody enough too for moderate range use. , and a very simple Hi/Low UI with a forward clicky.

Zebralight (1xaa) though would be my recommendation if you want a pure flood.
