nope. the 3xr123's will kill the bulb if it's unpretected, and if it is pretected the potective circuit will not allow such high current draw from the r123's with the p91
many members have used p90 and 2xr123's with success, i have an example of it and it works quite well, the beam is very bright, and it last quite a while and may rival the p91 as far as throw is concerned with a small flood, which may be the best compromise for your needs(unfortunately i got the protected ones, and for some reason 4 out of the 6 wouldn't work even with the p90, maybe i just got really unlucky). althouh the r123's would require you to get a 2-cell light, so you may not like it since you want t ouse it in your 9p
my advice is, which is what i use now in my 6p+a19, to get 2 pila 150s rechagable batteries for the p91, (and i recommend JSB for purchase) which i use daily and get 22 minutes of full brightness before the batts shut down. the circuit in those things act just like a regulator...very bright for the entire duration of the discharge.
P.S., the p91 is my favorite too, the p90 beam quality leaves much to be desired of...
