14500 compatibility in my D11?

I recently acquired a NitecoreD11 and ive read a lot About how much output is increased by using 14500 rechargeables.

I currently have a grey protected and a blue unprotected ultrafire. Here's my dilemma is that the protected cell doesn't fit in the d11 like it does in the d10 I have. It's too long.

So is there a problem running the unprotected cell in it? I don't want to screw anything up but I don't want to place an order for more right now. Is this okay?

I've tried looking on some threads and didn't really see definitive answer for unprotected cells.

You can use the unprotected cell but you want to be careful it isn't over-discharged. Most of the hazard of using unprotected cells is when re-charging a cell that has been over-discharged. If you have a multimeter, you would ideally want to re-charge such a cell when voltage drops to about 3.5 volts, but no lower than 3.0 volts. When you are ready to buy a new cell, consider buying an AW IMR 14500 which I believe can be purchased at Oveready or Lighthound. They are a safer chemistry and do not have/need a protection circuit. Consequently are shorter than protected LiCo cells and should fit your D11 just fine.
