16500 batteries

I found these while doing a little googling

LI-Ion 16500 Rechargeable battery. Anyone ever heard of them or used these? Seems like a good alternative to using three CR123 batteries.

Am I correct on this?
Three CR123=~9volts
Two 16500 =8.4 volts after a recharge

They look unprotected. I don't like unprotected batteries unless they have a safer chemistry. Now if they made a protected or imr or lifepo in 16670 to fit my quark 123 x 2 I would be interested. Most hosts that hold 3 x cr123 will hold 2 x 17500 which would have greater runtime.
