Don't know how it would run on 3.7V.
Secondary / rechargeable option?
I use 18650 in a PolyTac X, and it's happy with either (3.7V or 6V).
I just charged my first 16650 to use in a 2xCR123A light w/ Malkoff electronics, and it should run fine. I'll find out later today.
If it needs 6V, consider 2xLFP123?

They do make rechargeable 3.0volt RCR123 cells, now.
Two of those would easily work in your SureFire G2x.
Best bets would be the ones made by SureFire, or Watson.

Working great right now in my G2X.

I've found that the G2X, the 6PX and my first gen Fury all run great on 16650s...pretty sure I even get more runtime running that size battery, over primary cr123s.
