18650 light/battery question

18650 is the same physical size as 2 RCR123's, correct?
2200mAH is more than 2x750mAH, right?
Is there a voltage difference?

What I am ultimately trying to find is a bigger longer running flashlight.

I have the smaller EDC, like I want covered with a LF2XT, a NiteCore EZCR2, and a NiteCore EX.
So, now I am starting to look for a bigger light.
If I narrow the search for flashlight by narrowing it to lights by battery size, then 18650 is the biggest normally used, correct?
Should I look for 2 x RCR123 or 1 x 18650?

Or 3 x 18650?lovecpf

Some lights will operate more efficiently on 7.4V than 3.7V, but just comparing the cells, an 18650 has about twice the energy of a pair of RCR123s (which are actually about 550mAh each).

1x 18650 = 2200mAh @ 3.7V = 8140mWh
2x RCR123 = 550mAh @ 7.4V = 4070mWh

1x18500 is my favorite size, big enough to make losing/misplacing it unlikely, small enough to carry easily, bright (Q5 or p7) and long runtimes (low-med-high)

Yes there is a voltage difference,
One 18650 is 4.2v freshly charged
Two R123's is 8.4v freshly charged
Keep in mind that two R123's in series is still only 750mAh and not 2x 750mAh.

Ok, so the 18650 is the biggest baddest battery out there normally used for flashlights, correct? I am sure someone has a mod with a bank of batteries from a Prius, with the gasoline engine constantly charging them, but that is not what i am talking about.:laughing:

So, it seems to me size doesn't matter too much with this sort of light, for example the Pilot Whale is not exactly EDC. It is a bit expensive. It shouldn't be, as far as I can tell.

If you are thinking of modding your lights, note that a tube that takes 2x123 cells may NOT necessarily accept 1x18650 (18650s have 18mm diameters vs 16mm diameter of the 123) :)
Lengthwise, they are the same.

From what I saw here I took the plunge. I got the 'throwier' version.
It's now on my belt temporarily replacing my PD20
