Livermore tapped for first mobile battle laser

"If Urias can find the money, the clock starts ticking for Yamamoto to triple his laser's power to 40 or more kilowatts and, within a year, make it hardy enough for firing out of a Humvee."

Warfare at the speed of light

"It would be a very long-range, ultra-accurate sniper rifle," suggests John Pike, a weapons expert and director of GlobalSecurity.org.

"The likely targets... would be some sort of lighter vehicle or combustible structures or it could be people. Remember we're talking about a system that can be instantenously retargetable."

I think this is a prime candidate for generating lots of "Unintended Consequences."

Keep on mind that this thing will require:

1) Power

2) Cooling.

Both of these limit how often you can fire this thing. If you install it on a hummer, you will need to wait a while for the hummer's electrical system to recharge this thing. Also, one shot would likely generate a LOT of heat, and you would have to wait a minute or two for it to cool down.

Sounds cool, though. How can I get one?
