1X123 light question

Hi,
I'm a newbie, so forgive my ignorance : ) I have discovered that a small, bright light comes in very handy in my work. I first modded my minimag (impressed the other guys!) then got a CNC123, and put the sandwich (MM W/O) and an NX05 in that, even better! I picked up 2 ARC LS seconds, and, while I like the package size, neither one is as good as my CNC. I have read (and learned a lot here, but still have some questions. So, here they are.
I have seen reference to the LS "bezel", but the head of my LS's seems to be one piece. Is there a seam below the lettering?
I can see the lock nut inside the head, and read about the dificulty of removing it. I am pretty handy, and enjoy being able to switch optics in the CNC, but is modding an LS best left to experts?
It seems dat2zips sandwiches fit the LS, if I could get the light disassembled, are these sammiches a "drop in" fit? Can I just put one, an NX 05 and a 22.5 lens in, and reassemble?
What are some of your favorite combos for this light, keeping in mind close up and short distances are what I need to light.
I'm looking for a good deal (need to save money for other lights), is the modded LS about the best "bang for the buck"? Thanks!

If you already have the sandwiches and kroll switchs, the CNC 123 is the way to go! The FireFly is smaller than the CNC 123 but it also takes the dropin pills designed to go into the AA MiniMag. The FireFly is somewhat dimmer than the same pill in the CNC 123 as the 05 optic is turned down to fit in the snaller diameter battery tube. The FireFly also has no switch. The FireFly is still pretty damn bright for it's size.
