2AA light selection help

The LD20-Q5 is a nice light. I bought one for my brother and got to play around with it for a couple weeks. I got to play around with a TK20 on a CPF night hike once... also a great light.

Awesome low-low (I'm a 1st responder and checking pupils causes no issues)

Not the brightest light but the total package with a beautiful smooth beam and great tint make it a winner :twothumbs

I would also suggest the NiteCore D20 R2. I have never been much in to 2xAA lights, but I really like this one. The build quality, fit and finish are second to none. The UI on this thing is just phenomenal. The PD switch coupled with the instant high and low and ramp up or down to anywhere in between is just frigging awesome. The beam is nice and bright, and just as smooth as silk. I am using the new LSD Duracell NiMH 2000mAh batteries, and the thing is a champ. Adding this light to my EDC lineup is a no brainer. I am really happy I decided to try this one.

Inova X2. It's about as simple as it gets, built like a tank, and has a ridiculous run time.

My D20 R2 has been fantastic. The switch has a very short throw and is silky smooth.

How about a Novatac classic? I now use mostly 123 primary lights while working because of the reliability, however while at home the 2AA Novatac classic is my primary light (with NiMH rechargables). The programmable features of this light are amazing, beam pattern is good, and high of 120 lumens is fine for me... Reliability so far has been 100%. I have no regrets about this flashlight! :twothumbs

No issues with the D20 piston whatsoever. The action is smooth and does not stick at all. My first experience with the piston switch, and I really like it.

Ok, it's between the Quark AA2 and the Fenix LD20. Which has broader, more even beam?

probably the Quark, as the LD20 has a pretty well defined hotspot.

Strinq, your post got me to play with my P20A2 neutral-white (NW). It's been living, unused, by the front door to use as an emergency light, fitted with the provided diffuser lens (about 40-degrees) and loaded with two Sanyo Eneloops (NiMH, 1.2V each at a 1A load). After you reminded me of its virtues, I replaced the Eneloops with NiZn AA cells (1.6V each at a 1A load).

My. It now delivers slightly more lux than either of my two Malkoff M30WF drop-ins powered by 2 NiZn AAs...despite the considerably wider beam. Unlike the P20A2, the Malkoff M30s don't seem to benefit much from nickel-zincs. Even if 3AA would match the Eagletac's lux, the Eagletac lets you see MUCH wider arc.

I remember now why I decided not to carry the Eagletac: I've standardized on D26 heads so I can slip a yellow or orange traffic cone onto any light I carry. But there's nothing to stop me from wrapping the Eagletac head with electrical tape till it fits.
