Both my Reactors, when turned on with regular alkaline batteries, were pee green... Dim as hell. Put in lithiums and they're as bright as my Arc-LSs...
I don't think anyone's supposed to expect it to light up to as bright as an Arc without lithiums in there...
I initially thought my first one was defective, and ordered a second. Guess the Reactors can't live without lithiums...

After reading all that was posted in the Forum, I didn't even fool around with alkalines. Put the lithiums in and bingo...good beam! I ordered 5 more...hope I'm lucky!

2 N's and a AAA achieve the same brightness of lithiums at a much lower price. Either that, or I don't know any good sources for lithiums.

Just received my second Reactor today. I liked my first one so much I had to have another. My first had a nice bright white beam with little green in the corona. My 2nd sucks bigtime! Green as a lime and just alittle brighter then my Ultra!
I loaded a set of lithiums and it improved quite a bit in brightness. Well, thats what I get purchasing a $25 LS; luck of the draw!

Have you located a real cheap source of N cells? Unless you can pick couple of them for few cents, I don't think they would be cost-effective given how little of power they pack.

Try www.cheapbatteries.com for those and Lithiums (AA and 123). I am expecting an order of 48 Sanyo CR123A batteries at $1.65 each (best price). Lithium AAs are as low as $2.00 each in quantities of 48 or more. I do not know if they ship internationally.
The cheapest I can get 123s and Lithium AAs locally, is $2.50 each, and that is at Walmart. (2 pack of E2 123s for $10 and 4 pack of Lithium AA for $10)
Oh, the Reactor is designed with Lithium AAs in mind. Don't expect a whole lot of brightness out of a Reactor. CMG's design philosophy is the exact opposite of Arc's in this respect. CMG designs for backpacking, search and rescue, expeditions, and such. On those, runtime is far more important than maximum brightness (and the resulting short runtime).
