3 volt "D" size cell ?

3 volt \"D\" size cell ?

Has there ever been a D size cell in 3 volts/Lithium?
I want to use a 2D M*g-lyte in winter conditions, and I am making up a holder to use 1x123A cell at a time, with a spare compartment to hold perhaps 5 more.
Obviously, I would use a dummy "D" cell to fill the battery compartment, if a Lithuim "D" was available.

Yes. They are LiSO2 chemistry and capable of high rate discharge. Short circuit currents of 50 Amp or more. Saft makes them and probably other manufacturers. I've paid around $15 USD each for them. Capacity is 7.5 AHr.

There was a thread earlier today about using the rechargeable CR-V3 photo batteries which are 3V. This here might help you, just don’t try what he was doing. As long as you aren’t trying to run the exotic things, the current problems shouldn’t cause any problems.

You could evern use a second lithium D with a wire around it insulated from the cell as a *dummy* cell so when the first one goes dead you swap cells and bypass the other one with the wire setup.

Or just wire them in parallel...that way they'll both last longer with half the drain.

Your help is much appreciated. I aim to use one of the Everled bulb type replacements, when I can get one in New Zealand.

If you wire them in parallel, be sure to put diodes in series with each one, so if one goes low first, it won't 'backfeed' and drain the other(s), possibly one each end of the battery just to be extra-safe.

No problem when you start with two fresh cells of same age an d make. They will equalize themselfes.
But the much better solution will be to use a bulb rated for 4 alkalines.
I do have plenty of these cells and I'm very pleased with them. They are my main caving light püower source
