I understand that these lights suit different purposes, but why would the ProPolymer boast up to 336 hours driving 10 LED's, while the Task Light only claims up to 100 hours with 6 LED's (for the 3C model)? I know the answer is probably only conjecture at this point since the Task Lights aren't out yet. I would think that both of these coming from Streamlight would have their "end of battery life" rating points set similarly.

I'm really surprised that the new task lights haven't generated more buzz here at cpf, but to answer your question, it looks to me that SL might have made their new model 3c 10 led obsolete before it even gets released.

On paper the 3c 10 led will have a longer run time over the 3aa lux star task light, but I'd still rather have the task light.

I'll take less run time if I can use aa batteries, plus one lux star = 10 led, so I might not be buying the new model 3c 10 led afterall.

Oh who am I kidding, I'm going to buy both )

Hurry up Streamlight.

Yea, the pending new Tasklights and ALL the new Streamlight lights, are going to be very cool, but that 3C, 10 LED light is STILL a pretty nice light.

Long run time, cheap batteries, decent light output, rated for all kinds of hazards.

Even though I have lights that I like more, the Streamlight 3C is still the light I would pick, if I could choose to have only ONE light, on a deserted island.

Why would they put the 10 led's in a 2D (3 volts), but the 3C has only 6 LED's (4.5 volts).

And yes, I WANT THEM ALL TOO!

[/ QUOTE ]I'm looking for a long running light for emergency use. Brightness is secondary to a long runtime. But I'm sure the 3C ProPolymer is no dimmer than my 4AA ProPolymer, and I really love that light. That is, and will probably continue to be, my day-to-day workhorse for times when I need a respectable amount of light. My original CMG Infinity actually sees the most use of all my lights. I guess I get up for too many middle-of-the-night bathroom runs (Infinity in hand)! The 3C would probably not see much use. Just sitting there ready to go in case of an emergency. I've liked those LightWave 3000/4000 lights since I first saw them reviewed on Craig's site, but they seem a bit expensive. The 3C looks to be a light for similar circumstances, and it's a bit cheaper (Arizona Gun Runners has it for $30.91, and Amazon has it for $34.99 with free shipping). The new Task Lights look like "Super 3C's PLUS", but I wouldn't be able to keep my hands off one and leave it sitting idle with fresh batteries just waiting for an emergency. So I guess I'll just have to be like every other fool here, and just get both! I'm still wondering why the Task Lights have such shorter run times on LED than the 3C however. I haven't read anywhere that the Task Lights are regulated, or anything like that which might explain it.

Me too. The concept of a Xenon/LED combo is pretty cool, but that Xenon's gonna go "poink" some day .

I'll take the plenty o' LED's concept any day. I have a 3C 10 , but fixed on the 4AA 7 for EDC. I'm impressed as all get-out with the LS lights I have (an LGI, and ARC LS 1x123) but until the LS is absolutely proven stone reliable...I like 'em, but not for EDC/disaster lights. 7-10 LED's are plenty bright, and they will endure, without heatsinking concerns.

But, you GO 5W Cyan guys, someday we'll have eyeburners the size of Minimags, with 24 hour runtimes...well, I can dream.

[/ QUOTE ]So, do you still get comments like "Wow, you must really like me - or is that a 7 LED 4AA ProPolymer you have in your pocket?!" But I guess that would be better than "Oh, that must be a ARC AAA you have in your pocket".

Allrighty then.

Got my 3C 10Led today (much quicker than I expected!).

It is in shape and function like a great big ole 2AA Pro Poly I already had. It puts out a goodly amount of slightly blue light. It is very well dispersed, and lights up any part of the room I'm in just dandy! I was hoping the tail switch was a clickie, no dice.

Should make an awesome 'if the s*** hits the fan' light!

It JUST fell about 3 feet onto an under desk plastic??? And came through it just fine!

Now I just gotta get my Starlux and I'll be done.... yeah right!

Is my Brookstone the next Streamlight?

Picked this up at Brookstone recently. Very solid (good for whacking, like a M*gLight), nice and bright in LED or incandescent mode. Got $10 off when I purchased a cube shaped clock/thermometer/timer that changes function depending on position of the clock. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My best guess because a 3C only has 75% of the AH of a 2D (2c=1D).

I REALLY want that 2D model, it was announced just as I was about to buy a LW4000.

This is the new model, correct. What's different about it? I thought the main difference was a new switch? You said no clicky? Can it still be turned on by twisting the lamp? Pictures of beam by any chance? Oh, one last thing, BG is out till Mar 30, so I'm curious where you bought yours at.

Can you tell I'm enthusiastic about this light )

If you are refering to the 4AA ProPolymer 7 LED model (not the incandecent), I have both, and, of course, the 3C (10 led's) is brighter than the 4AA (7 LED's).

It works just the same as my 2AA. Push the tail for momentary, twist the head for constant on.

It's kinda big to hold and thumb the tail... but it works easier than my 2AA.

I'd say in pitch dark, it would be damn bright. I figure it would be a good walking or emergency light.

[/ QUOTE ]Yes, I have the LED one too. I wasn't sure about the brightness comparisons though. On one hand, you have 10 vs. 7 LEDs, but then you also have 6v (4AA) vs 4.5v (3C). I also have one of the earlier 4AA's that doesn't have the extra dropping resistor. I assume the 3C is not as overdriven as the 4AA, but I don't know if that is overshadowed by the 10 vs. 7 thing. But you've answered my implied question however - Thanks.
