How much heat do cob leds generate?

I'm on the hunt for something I can mount inside of a test tube and Epoxy the end for submersed use

Would I be able to run these with out a heatsink? Or maybe mount it to a thin strip of aluminum?

I am no Anorak on the subject but in my day job I sell two versions of the cob light to the automotive trade. 1st Is the triple x AAA cell pocket version and the 2nd is a much larger Li-On powered hand lamp neither of which generate heat at all at the point of light delivery ie the lens.

I have the small one tucked in my sun visor and acts as a far brighter interior light for doing paperwork in the dark.

1.5w on the pocket version
3.0w on the hand held.

I ordered a bunch of 1w diodes as well as 4x 6w cob strips in there own little aluminum strip so I have options!
