How tough is the plastic tail?
Where did you read that the tail is plastic? I'd like to know the exact material utilized, but find myself unable to locate that information.

In the release video, he mentions that the tail is plastic to accomodate the inductive charging.
Short answer is I don’t know. Long answer is the flashlight itself seems very solid. The “tail” has two parts a darker, flatter black plastic parallel to the body then a shinier more metallic looking endcap. I am fairly certain that both pieces are indeed plastic and have zero desire to take a blade to them to confirm.
So with that said I’m sure you could break it with a forceful throw that happened to catch it right. To me this light isn’t about absolute unreal ability. It’s about an incredibly useful light that is intuitive for most anyone who picks it up to use. And when you need it it is charged up and ready to go (or already on lighting your way if the power went out).
I have some of the most absolutely robust lights on the market. They are awesome. But they don’t have the features I n the Standby and cost more. And that’s totally fine and reasonable. Horses for courses.
End of the day Jason’s warranty also seems pretty straight up. If you broke it in honest use that could be expected to f such a light you should be pretty well covered.
TLDR; put it this way. I was so impressed by the whole package with my first purchase that I bought another setup at retail for my parents, who are not flashlight connoisseurs.

Just be mindful that he says that it's possible to open the tailcap with brute force and break the glue, but there's wires and contacts in there that would break along with the glue so don't do it, lol.
