4000 - 4300k Light

looking for a bright, long runtime 4000 - 4300k flashlight which runs on an 18650 battery.
was also thinking it could run on AA but feel I would use them up too fast.


I quite like darksucks.com's alpha light in 4000k MCE LED.
wondering too what LED at those Kelvin rating levels to go for. read that MCE LED is way superior.

at the moment got a PD32UE which is good stuff, but reading up this kind of light is not so good on the old eyes.
true?.

Try a Zebralight SC600W, stronger than the PD32 UE, a lot SMALLER than the PD32UE, takes a single 18650 instead of four AA's etc, has longer run time, and has a Kº you are looking for.

thanks, might wait for the MkII if that's better, but it comes down to the final quality control issues.
not sure about buying from ZL, just in case.
too many sad stories on their quality control, and usual bad CS.
that's whats putting me so off otherwise that suits me well !.

The Cree mc-e became more/less obsolete for general usage when the Cree xm-l came out.
The mc-e hung around because the wiring can be configured series/parallel and any combination because each of the 4 die are individually addressable.
The sizing used to be small, medium, large, extra extra large: Cree xp-c, xp-e, xp-g, xm-l

The MCE is old news, and it really is not that good. The XML is the newer LED of choice especially if you are looking for more flood.

If you use the Fenix TK40, if you bring the beam close to the wall, you will notice a 'philips head' screwdriver pattern, which is the spacing between dies where no light is being emitted.
By using an OP reflector, you can hide that is normal usage. That does limit maximum throw, relative to a smooth reflector-which you don't want to use with the mc-e.
It is 2013, so: xp-e2, xp-g2, xm-l2 as your primary LEDs. Though outliers are coming into the mainstay, see the updated Surefire G2X and such. and Nichia's

You can PM jason about whether he can make a light for you at 1.4a and using the Nichia 219 emitter. They're at 4500k CCT. The next closest thing would be a NW tint that isn't of a high CRI but does have a 4000k CCT.

If no avail, you can build your own custom light by dropping by a local shop with your drawn out blueprint for each component. They'll machine it for ya but you'd have to piece all the parts together (eg. tail switch, driver, o-rings, emitter).

The key in this light is how you consider high CRI. I consider it to be 90+ regardless of CCT. Others will consider the 80+ XM-L Easy White a high CRI but it's rated at 2800k CCT. Nichia has the highest CCT to CRI ratio, rated at 92 CRI.

McGizmo has quite a bit of lights that utilize the Nichia 119 and 219. You'd just have to drop by the custom builders and ask to see if they can meet your needs.

Nichia 219/119 is nice, and also you can get some pretty decent colored XM-Ls as well.

XM-L does come in a high CRI and warm white (non high CRI). The high CRI is a 2800CCT or so and IIRC, 80CRI.

EDIT: The high CRI XM-L is called Easy White. They resemble the MC-E's quad die.

There is also an XML single die HCRI.
Nailbender offers a P60 with XML in HCRI 90+ 3200K S6 bin.
Beautiful warm tint with great color, like incan it's amazing outdoors!

This HCRI XML is only sold by Nailbender in his P60 drop-in.
I have not seen a HCRI 90+ XML anywhere else unfortunately.

As others have said, keep your PD32UE the way it is as it has a pretty good neutral 5000K XML.

You could get a nice P60 host (18650 compatible) and then you'll have your choice of all the different P60 drop-ins available.
The P60 drop-in are available in almost every flavor you can think of.

As for the XPG HCRI 93, 3000K is pretty low temp.
The XML HCRI 3200K P60 I have is already pretty low temp I wouldn't want to go lower.
