Id like to either build a battery pack out of 18650 batteries or just use a dewalt battery. The lead-acid battery i took out of the spolight was a 12v4.5ah/20hr battery. Any suggestions on what to do? I want to avoid using another lead acid battery...just because id like to make multiple batteries so when one dies i can swap easily.

Building a lipo battery pack is not for the novice, there are many hazards that you must be aware of or risk of fire/explosion can occur, please read the postings in the electronics section of this forum to learn more.

So, what are my options?
Using a Dewalt pack would be doable - but pricey, unless you already own tools using the packs
it will be easier to buy a busted tool on ebay, and cannabilize it for the bracket that holds the pack (basically saw the handle off and fit it to your light host.
You will need a ballast/hid assembly that will handle the pack voltage too.
or a voltage stepdown converter to feed the bulb 12v

So, i will not even pretend that i know what im doing here, i have batteries, and i have the female end off the tool that will be fit to the light. Im handy, not techy. What hid/ballast do i use? If someone could give me the part number or link with the part, i will order one and wire it up, i just dont want to do it with the wrong part(s). Thank you for all the help.

How many Watts do you want your light to be? When I built a similar set-up I used a 35 Watt compact automotive kit purchased from ebay and shared with another member.

Well, really anything 1million CP or up would be fine. Its just for use on the farm, and boating both so thats half the reason for the removable battery. I bought this thing cheap and it wasnt one that could be used off direct power source so that leads me to get it running off changeable batteries. Im fine throwing $ at it because i have a definate use for it and i have plenty of batteries i can use (i do comstruction too so there is no shortage).
