A friend of mine asked me to look for a good price for a Maglite 4D-6D flash light.
I found they do not use a LED bulb and if you want good performance you need a LED replacement; a Terralux for example.

Before recommending him this I thought I would check here to see if there are better alternatives then a Maglite with LED replacement.

He would like it to be waterproof and at least have 4D batteries and not over $50.
He also likes the Maglite because it can be used for self defence if needed.

So:
-waterproof
-LED
-Sturdie
-not over $50

Does this exist or is a 4D Maglite with LED replacement the best route for $50?

Incandescent Maglites are pretty cheap. You'll be able to find a 4D one for around $18 on Amazon. If you can shell out a little more cash, get an Incandescent Maglite 4D with a Malkoff dropin. The 300 lumen XP-G2 will cost you $39, and the 700 lumen XM-L will cost you $69. If I were you, I'd get a 3D Mag, unless you want to use it as a beating stick :naughty:. Just a lot easier to carry around.

Living in Europe means I have to pay $32 for a 4D Maglite. Thanks for the Amazon tip though, just checked Amazon germany and it's cheaper ($32) then Ebay ($45).

He wants to use it as a beating stick so at least a 4D.

I guess there are no alternatives so I will recommend him a Maglite with LED drop in.
