Hi All,

I have been lurking on this site on and off now for about 3-4 years, but this is my first post so please bear with me.

:welcome: :duh2:

I have just aquired a 2nd hand 6C maglite, it has no "C" in the serial number, so Im assuming it is pre 2001. I am looking to upgrade the bulb to something more impressive, whether it be LED or Incan im not to concerned. I currently have a 4D m*glite with a Malkoff Drop-in, which i find to have good throw and some decent spill.

I dont even know what I am after, just something "more" than the malkoff, and i guess that means " more" lumens. Something with a wow factor. I want something signifcant better that the malkoff to make this mod worthwhile, thinking ROP or similar incan or is there a equivlent LED setup ?

An ideas? ( im sure there is hundreds)

Is there a difference between the pre and post "C" maglite's, from what i have read the cylinder is larger in the pre C. Can you fit a post C head onto a pre C head or vice versa? Would Fivemega's 2.5 " head fit on the pre C model? I have also read that the on/off switch is of a different design.

I have searched and read but most posts seem to disolve into saying these torches are too big and to get a 2/3 size C/D m*g.

Would like a runtime of at least 45 minutes.

Cheers

Ben

Welcome to CPF, landcruiser80 :)

I'll move your thread to our Homemade & Modified lights section - you'll find plenty of ideas and mods to consider there. With a Mag 6C to play with, you could end up with something quite impressive!

pre 91 c mag means you can put imr 26***.
imr cells means you can run high current bulb,
easyest mod would be 4 26650 imr cells, and 50w mr16 spot, you'll also need glass lens (borosilicate glass to be exact 2 of them you'll have fill about 4 mm). don't bother with glass lens, one of them will crack as it heats up, and it will heat up.
use search button here for mr16 mods, you'll see many pics, and examples.

btw pre 91 6c might fetch a round sum, you might sell it and have enough to buy a good ready made or already modded light

Hi,

What runtime and lumens could I expect out of this set up. From what I have read, I dont have to modify the light which is a big plus.

Cheers

from 50w mr16???
with 4x26650 you will get few thousands lm, and about 45m runtime. vs 100lm few hours in stock form.
and you will have to mod the light. thou except for the switch, all mods are reversible, but i guarantee after you use above mentioned set up, you'll never want to unmod it back to stock form.

alpg88,

I dont know if my light is pre 91, All I know is it does not have the C in the serial number,ut I thought that meant it was pre 2001. Is this correct?

Is the pre C serial number mags wider than post C. If so by how much?

Cheers

it is pre C, year makes no difference, idk exact date myself

yes it is wider, idk by how much, but enough to fit imr 26xxx cells with no borring out

Hi,

If i used Fivemegas 5.3mm Gx5.3 bulb adapter (http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=160915), would that mean i dont have to modify the switch, would like the whole process to be reversable.

At 3.7V x 4 cells the voltage would be 14.08V, is this sufficent to get max output from the M16 50W globe? I have read over 18V is required. Should I be using the IRC
globe (http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/pike444/bulbs/64440-IRC-50W.jpg).

Is globe a good thrower or more of a mid distance spread/throw?

Is this mode supiour to the ROP setup? The MR16 mod is not on the list of brightest mag mods (http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=160915) where would it sit in this list?

Does anyone give me a link to the differnece between pre and post "C" in the serial number? Can you use a post serial number "C" switch in a pre "C" torch?

The most I ask the more question I have but thats the way we learn.

Cheers

sufficient yes, max no, it still will be bright enough, you can't fit 5 26650 cells, only 26500 will fit, but they are half the capacity.

they come in different angles

Is this mode supiour to the ROP setup?

depends on mr16 wattage

What is the benefit of MR16 over the ROP?

Cheers
