Hi there all. I'm new to this and would like some help and suggestions. So bare with me and thanks in advance.

I want more brightness in my light and need help. I've seen people use the Pelican 2854 bulb with an upgraded glass lens and aluminum reflector. Now the problem is what about batteries. Some people are using D cell nimh, but what about using AA nimh in D cell case. I would like to know the exact number of batteries, amps and whatever else I need to make this work. I'm not good at math so I have no idea on what exact battery configuration and specification I need. If someone can post a link to where to purchase these exact items, that would be awesome.

Also I found the lens and reflector on Deal Extreme. Are these ok or am I wasting my money there. I'm mechanically incline just not mathematically incline so I can do soldering, grinding and etc. I would like to be able to run about 1.5 hrs continuously without frying anything. I also live in Van. B.C, Canada. If there are places where I can purchase the items locally, please let me know. Thanks again everyone.
 
The setup you're wanting to do is a ROP, very simple mod. You will need the bulbs you mentioned, a aluminum reflector and glass lens as you mentioned also. As for batteries, 6 D Ni-mh's at 10,000 mAh will give you a great runtime, some like these. DX reflectors are not drop in for a Mag, you will need to buy one from Kaidomain, Litho (over in the marketplace) or one from Fivemega.
 
Yup.....they've covered all you basically need. Six NiMH will work.

The problem with this mod is that it is a very high current mod and the AA-to-D adapters don't work very well because they introduce a lot of resistance, heat up, and fail - or worse.

Six D cells is the optimal setup for your configuration, otherwise I suppose you could put six C cells into the light with a plastic pipe around it to prevent them from rattling. If the spring does not touch the rear of the cells (as they are shorter) you may need to come up with a suitable copper spacer.

Depending on cell capacity, six C would give you nearly an hour or perhaps a bit more.

The plastic pipe approach would work with six AA NiMH as well but would not meet your runtime requirements - you can expect perhaps less than half an hour. Do it only if you absolutely need to keep the weight down.
