So a buddy came over last night with his new 6D mag. He wants to do a simple dropin, or minimally involved mod using 6 LSD NiMH batteries. We discussed ROP, but for a number of reasons, that's not the way to go.
I'm looking for a minimum 1000 lumens with a "traditional" flashlight beam. I've done blazing hotwires before, and played around with other mods, but I'm not sure what's out there for this. He wants it to be solid and trustworthy.

Anyone know of anything available? I've already checked with two well known providers of other mag dropins, and neither has a readily avilable solution (driver max of 6V, where 6 nimh will be 7.2, and over 8 fresh off the charger...). I'd love to get him a No memory High-medium driver pushing 3-XM-L in reflectors, with a 2000 lumen(ish) high and 1000(ish "low"). That's the ideal, but without a full modding service, don't know if it's possible.
While we're at it...anyone up for modding it for him to the above specs? Actually, it sounds pretty nice....I might want one too!

Thanks fellas!

I don't think you'll find any/many true 1000 lumen straight drop ins. TerraLUX offer their tripple emitter drop in with 1000 lumens (not OTF) which is probably as cheap and as simple as you'll get off the shelf.

Malkoff offer some other options for a bit more money.

However it has to be said a 1000 lumens from an XM-L is one being driven really hard, so you'll want superb heat sinking. Either that or you need to be looking at SST90's for single emitter lights.

DX have a triple XM-L drop in that assuming it's like the 5 R2 or 6 Q5 drop in will fit with a bit of trimming and cutting the tower off the switch assey and soldering two wires. Fairly easy although grunt work. No idea on actual output, but even 3 mildly driven XM-L's should be easily 1000+ lumens OTF.

Lots of custom options if you want to build yourself though.

Hey, thanks. I spoke to Gene (and Mac) about their dropins, and both of them will go POOF with 6XniMh. I could use dummy cells, I guess.
I can do BASIC modding work, but the custom options are likely beyond what I can do. I was hoping someone could do it for me for proper remuneration.

Hi smokelaw1,

I could make something pretty close to what your looking for. It wouldnt be a straight drop in but since you have some skills I could make a light engine and then you can install it by removing the old switch an snap ring.

It would be a 3 XML with a triple optic ( I've been planning to release some of these soon anyway) .
